Le Meridien Tampa

Adaptive reuse of courthouse to serve surrounding bustling arts and entertainment district.

The “Old Federal Courthouse” was originally constructed in 1905 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This Downtown Tampa landmark also once served as a customs house and post office.

DSG managed the adaptive reuse of the historic building into the Le Méridien Tampa, as its location was aptly located in the center of Tampa’s bustling arts and entertainment district, a destination that attracted tourists and locals alike. The project encompassed preserving the building’s original architecture, including its marble and terrazzo lobby and oak door frames and window casings, and incorporating contemporary design details inspired by the city.

Today, the hotel boasts an indoor and outdoor French brasserie, cocktail bar, 4,000 square feet of event space, an outdoor pool and a fitness center. The business center features ultramodern technology while repurposing the courthouse’s historic judge’s bench for the primary workstation.
